As you know, we at Kew Junction love celebrating Halloween as much as you and your kids. So we were determined to celebrate this year, even if it means we need to do it a little differently.

Welcome to COVID-safe Halloween where we have:

  1. A dress up competition running on the Kew Junction Facebook Page for kids, families and pets!
  2. Superheroes, princesses, cartoon characters and more delivering lolly bags to 1000 kids within 5km of Kew, and
  3. A full day of free online Halloween activities for kids to get involved in including pumpkin carving, making spell books and potions, and culminating in an online disco.

Halloween Dress-Up Competition for kids, families and pets

We have 20 x $100 vouchers to give away in the Halloween Dress-Up Competition, in addition to fab prizes for your furry friends!

Look for the competition post to go live on the Kew Junction Facebook page at 10am on Halloween morning (Sat 31st). Upload your photo in the comments – be it kids, family pet or whichever combination you like.

The top 20 (human) winners will made up of 15 photos with the most likes and 5 photos chosen by Kew Junction Committee as their faves. Winners will each receive a $100 voucher to spend in an independent Kew Junction business.

The best dressed pet photo will be chosen by Kew Vet & Cattery. The winner will receive a $150 voucher to spend at the clinic. Kew Vet will also be choosing a runner up cat and runner up dog photo, both of whom will receive a bag of Hills Science Diet Food.

Winners will be announced on Monday, Nov 2 at 12pm on Kew Junction Facebook & Instagram.

Lolly Bag Delivery for Kew Kids

Yes, you heard right. Due to social distancing, kids may not be able to trick or treat this year, so we have booked in superheroes, cartoon characters, princesses and more to bring the lollies to you!

That said, we are only able to deliver to 1000 kids, so please read the details and conditions below very carefully as we can’t cater for everyone 🙁


  1. We are running this activity as a fundraiser for Kew Neighbourhood Learning Centre and will require a $2 donation per lolly bag. ALL money raised will be donated. There will be 10 x mixed, wrapped lollies in the bags (no nuts)
  2. If you have four kids in the house, we are happy to deliver four lolly bags, however, kids have to be aged 15 years or under
  3. We only have 1000 lolly bags so, once these are booked, we have no more unfortunately
  4. You MUST be within a 5km radius of Kew Junction Postmaster Hotel (see map below). Please do not apply if you fall out of this area
  5. Deliveries will be between approx 11am – 2pm
  6. You cannot choose which character delivers
  7. We will be asking for your phone number in the registration so the character can call you when delivering, so you can let kids know to expect them
  8. You are allowed to get photos with characters, as long as you adhere to any social distancing requirements in place at the time

  3. Pay $2 per lolly bag
  4. Keep en eye on your phone on Oct 31 so you don’t miss the delivery

Online Halloween Activities for Kids!

See below for a schedule of all that will be happening online for Halloween in Kew.

Every event, bar the online disco, will go LIVE on the Kew FB Halloween Event page. Make sure to head over and register your interest in attending so you get notifications when each event goes live.

Due to music licensing regulations, the disco will be held in a live Zoom event. You can see the link and log in details below in the disco section. The link details will also be posted into the Kew FB Halloween Event page at 3pm on Oct 31.

The disco is brought you by our friends at Kids Disco Parties. All other activities hosted by the fantastical True Fairies.

10AM – Halloween Pumpkin Carving

Create your very own Halloween Pumpkin, this activity is for all ages young and old!!

You will need:

  • A large pumpkin
  • A serrated knife (adult supervision required)
  • A large spoon
  • A marker
  • A tea light candle

Halloween pumpkins available to buy from Toscano’s at 213/219 High St, Kew.

11AM – Witchety Woo Spell Books

Learn how to craft your own spell book, and put your first spell in it!! 5-8YO

You will need:

  • 1 x piece of cardboard (get creative. you could even use a cereal box!)
  • At least three sheets of Paper (coloured or white)
  • String/ ribbon/ twine or pipe cleaners (for binding)
  • A hole punch
  • Textas/ glitter glue/ gems/ puffy letters/ decor/ paint (black or purple would be cool!)

12PM – Edible Halloween Treats for all ages

Choose from the items below to make some healthy.. and not so healthy treats!

You will need:

  • 4 Mandarins
  • 4 small pieces of celery
  • 4 bananas
  • 8 chocolate chips
  • 1 packet of oreos
  • straight pretzels
  • small white marshmallows

Some parental supervision may be required for the tricky parts!

1PM – Halloween mask making

Make creative or spooky masks!

You will need:

  • Cardboard or mask shape template or paper plate
  • PVA glue
  • Decorations, think spooky or magical, googly eyes, feathers, pompoms, glitter glue etc
  • Paint, think colours for a vampire, Skeleton, Frankenstein, animal, witch or fairy
  • Elastic or popsicle stick

No need for parental supervision for pre and primary school ages, as long you you set up the area in advance with a craft sheet and art smock.

2PM – Potions class

Join our resident Witch and learn all about how to mix special ingredients to cause very cool effects!

You will need:

  • A cauldron and stirrer
  • Eye of newt
  • Pixie- Wee
  • Toe nail of a dragon
  • Sparkles from a Unicorn’s tail

If you can not find these at home you can use these substitutes:

  • Mixing bowl and spoon
  • Food colouring
  • Vinegar
  • Bi-carb soda
  • Dishwashing liquid

Age group 4 years plus. Parental supervision required for younger kids as can be MESSY! May be a great outdoor activity if a nice day.

3PM – Online Disco

Join us for a fab and fun online disco with 30-40 minutes of high energy entertainment, games, personalised shout outs & song requests.
